Lamborghini Urus Disaster: A Two-Hour Rental Turns Into a $62,000 Repair Nightmare

In a tale that reads like a supercar enthusiast’s worst nightmare, a nearly pristine 2022 Lamborghini Urus embarked on a one-month rental adventure, only to return two hours later with extensive damage on the passenger’s side. The aftermath has left the rental company’s owner, Rob Ferretti, frantically searching for elusive replacement parts.

The harrowing episode began when the driver who had rented the luxury SUV reached out to Ferretti, the proprietor of the exotic car rental service, to report an accident. Initially optimistic, Ferretti questioned the severity, considering the vehicle had only left his premises a mere two hours prior.

Upon its return, shock and disbelief enveloped Ferretti as he laid eyes on his Lamborghini Urus, adorned in a striking Rosso Mars (red) paint. The once pristine vehicle now bore the scars of a catastrophic event—both doors on the right side were grievously damaged, with the rear door misaligned to the extent of likely rendering it inoperable.

The right side sill suffered extensive damage, while the front fender also bore the brunt of the impact. The mirror dangled precariously, adding to the laundry list of replacements. The driver’s account pointed to a sideswipe incident by another vehicle while stationary at a traffic light.

As the Urus sits incapacitated, the prospect of finding replacement parts becomes increasingly challenging. Two weeks post-accident, necessary components sourced from other crashed Lamborghinis remain elusive. The repair estimate has already soared to $36,292, coupled with $9,487 for body labor.

Additional costs include $6,987 for paint labor, $4,192 for frame paintwork, an estimated $1,050, $128 for body supplies, and a cryptic $35 labeled “miscellaneous” on the repair bill. The cumulative total skyrockets to $58,173, with sales tax pushing the grand total over $62,000.

Rob faces a daunting task of securing this substantial sum to resurrect his exotic SUV. The financial magnitude becomes apparent when one considers the alternative—multiple premium cars like a Mercedes-Benz E-Class or a BMW 5 Series could be acquired for the same investment, with surplus funds to spare.

The 2022 Urus, boasting a mere 5,000 miles (8,046 kilometers) and an impeccable exterior, has been abruptly thrust into the realm of damaged exotics. Despite the rental company’s offer of a replacement vehicle, the driver, unyielding, has opted to wait until the Urus undergoes restoration.

The Lamborghini Urus, starting at $225,000 in the United States, is a bestseller with its 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8, churning out 641 horsepower (650 PS) and 627 lb-ft (850 Nm) of torque. Capable of accelerating from 0 to 62 mph (0-100 kph) in 3.6 seconds and reaching a top speed of 190 mph (306 kph), it’s a coveted luxury SUV that, unfortunately for its owner, is now entangled in a costly repair saga.
